The Pune Housing and Area Development Board, Pune is a regional unit of MHADA. It is established on 5th December 1977 as per the provisions in section 18 of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Act, 1976.
The Board is functioning at Regional Head Quarters at Pune having territorial Jurisdiction over 14 Districts of Pune Division namely; Pune, Pimpari Chinchwad, Kolhapur, Ichal-Karanji, Solapur, Barshi, Pandharpur, Sangali-Miraj-Kupwad, Satara, Karad, Lonawala, Baramati, Eslampur and Faltan Districts. The Board is functioning under superintendence and control of the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority, Mumbai.
The total number of PMC members is 144. The PMC is in charge of the civic needs and infrastructure of the metropolis. Pune is divided into forty-eight municipal wards, each represented by 3 members and overseen by an Assistant Municipal Commissioner for administrative purposes. The corporators of the administration are elected by the people through a popular vote and almost all the state political parties participate in the election.
The city comes under the Haveli Taluka of Pune District, Maharashtra. The collectors are in charge of property records and revenue collection for the Central government. They also conduct national election in the city. Like other metropolises in India, the Pune Police is headed by a Police Commissioner, an IPS officer. The Pune Police is the law enforcing agency in the city and comes under the state Home Ministry.
