Secunderabad is known as the twin-city of Hyderabad. The Hussain Sagar Lake separates Secunderabad from Hyderabad. Secunderabad is fast catching up among the tourists of the world. Secunderabad has a rich history that is almost akin to that of Hyderabad. The origin of Secunderabad goes back to the time when Hyderabad was formed. The history of Secunderabad runs parallel to that of the Hyderabad. The cities have grown together and developed into major commercial centres of the present century. Secunderabad is separated from Hyderabad by a manmade lake called Hussain Sagar. The place served as a British military base during their rule in the nineteenth century. Hyderabad and Secunderabad both share a single airport that is located within its boundaries.


Secunderabad once had its own metropolis and government, until lately it got mutually joint with the city of Hyderabad. Secunderabad is hardly heard of now as most people recognize it as the city of Hyderabad today. Several tourists visit Secunderabad for viewing its local attractions. While planning a tour to Secunderabad, visit the Rashtrapati Nilayam, which is well compared, to the Rashtrapati Bhavan sited in New Delhi. Rashtrapati Nilayam is the presiding office of the President where he halts during his yearly visit to South India.The Trimulgherry Fort in Secunderabad is a magnificent fort constructed in the year in 1867, which is surrounded by a deep channel that stands at an elevation of about 3 miles. The fort is comprised of barracks, mews, mess houses, arsenals, stables, and military offices. Trimulgherry Fort in Secunderabad was later converted into a Military Hospital. A noteworthy destination in Secunderabad is the Trinity Church, celebrated mainly amongst British regiments. Visit the Victorian Prison of Secunderabad, which existed since the Victorian period for confining its prisoners. Catch up with the innumerable multiplexes that are dotted in Secunderabad and come across some of the local attractions in the vicinity areas like Pizza Corner along the S.P.Road, Minerva Shopping Complex, Foodworld on Prenderghast Road, Anand and Sangeet cinemas along with wide spread boutiques .

Secunderbad is the twin city of Hyderabad, India, separated by the man made lake, Hussain Sagar, from the capital of Andhra Pradesh. Secunderabad has a vast Army presence and was first founded in the 18th century as a British cantonment. Named after Sikandar Jah, the third Nizam of the Asaf Jahi dynasty, Secunderabad had it’s own municipality and city government, until recently when it was merged in with Hyderabad .

 

Transportation

The city is the Head-Quarters of South Central Railway Zone of the Indian Railways. It is served by one of the oldest and largest Railway Station in the twin cities popularly known as the Secunderabad Railway Station. It is well connected to other cities of the State as well as the country. Thousands of people from both the cities travel everyday from this station, because of its convenient location.The Railway station has been renovated to provide convenient facilities to passengers like toll booths for cars, increased parking space, additional ticketing counters and giving it a better overall look as well. Private Taxis are also provided for commuters. MMTS local services are also available via this station. Secunderabad is also a major railway junction in the Wadi-Vijayawada railway route.

Secunderabad is also one of the major hub for the City Bus transport run by the AP State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) and is well connected to all the corners of both Hyderabad and Secunderabad. Major bus stations are the Jubilee Bus Station and Rathfile Bus station handling thousands of commuters everyday.

The city has good road connectivity to all places within it as well as with its neighbouring twin, Hyderabad. Tank Bund road is a historical and an important road which connects the two cities. It is situated on the banks of the lake Hussain sagar.Every day thousands of people criss-cross the twin cities, and as such there is no difference between the two cities. Both of them are treated equally as one big city.

The city is also well connected by air to other cities of the state as well as to other major cities of the country and abroad, through the Begumpet International Airport which is very close to the city centre. The airport being close to the city was convenient for citizens and tourists alike. Until March 2008 the airport was shifted to Shamshabad on the outskirts of Hyderabad and is now known as Hyderabad International Airport.
