Property in Vadodara • About Vadodara
Vadodara formerly Baroda is the third most-populated city in the Indian state of Gujarat after Ahmedabad and Surat. It is one of four cities in the state with a population of over 1 million, the other being Rajkot and the two cities listed above. It is also known as the Sayaji Nagari. Vadodara or Baroda, formerly the capital city of the Gaekwar State, is situated on the banks of the Vishwamitri, a river whose name derived from the great saint Rishi Vishwamitra. It is located southeast of Ahmedabad. It is the administrative headquarters of Vadodara District.
Although Rajkot and Surat are larger cities in the state, Vadodara is regarded as being Gujurat’s cultural capital and is often referred to as “Sanskari-Nagar” or ‘Cultured City’. The area is linguistically and culturally very diverse. Gujarati, the official language of the state, is spoken and understood by all. You can find Marathi, the legacy of the Maratha rulers in some pockets. Hindi, the national language is also understood by all. The large number of English and public schools has facilitated the spread of the English language.
The city of Vadodara today is a cosmopolitan city with modern facilities, a well established industry, lot of employment opportunities and truly bursting at it’s seems. The influx of youth from neighboring villages and towns looking for job opportunities is adding to the woes of the city. The industrial capital of the state with a number of glass, pharmaceutical and chemical industries is facing an unemployment crisis.

Education
Baroda is synonymous with education. The patronage of education started with Maharaja Sayajirao and the city has built further on the academic infrastructure established by him. The present educational foundation rests on over 20 public schools and over 100 private schools. Towering benevolently over all is the Maharaja Sayajirao University, the jewel in the Baroda crown, so to speak. MSU is the only university in Gujarat with English as the medium of instruction. It has 13 faculties and 17 residential hostels, 4 of them for women students. The university caters to over 30,000 students.
